Accelerated Learning

I disagree with the idea of putting children in a school in which they learn at a rate faster than other children. I think that they lose a large part of their childhood and lose the opportunity to make and keep life-long friends. It is an opportunity for parents to push their children into the life they wished they had but couldn't achieve. The parents often become obsessive and cause the children to feel disappointed if their child does not suceed, forcing the children to work even harder to please their parents. It is not necessary for 11 year old kids to be starting high school with the intentions of starting university only two years later. There is no need for a 13 year old child to decide that he is going to become a lawyer or a doctor. The only real advantage that the program offers is to give children an extra two-three years pay before they retire.

i completly agree with you amanda...so many people today complain about how fast kids are growing up..and that they're skipping through major parts of their childhood..well what do you expect..that's the cost of forcing 13 year olds into university..and another thing...how is it possible for a 13 year old to know what they want to do with the rest of their life when alot of adults still have no idea.
